Meaning of BMI Ranges

  • Less than 18.5: underweight
  • 18.5 to <25: normal weight
  • 25.0 to <30: overweight
  • 30.0 or higher: obese

Obesity is frequently subdivided into categories:

  • Class 1: BMI of 30 to < 35
  • Class 2: BMI of 35 to < 40
  • Class 3: BMI of 40 or higher, sometimes categorised as “severe” obesity.

There are exceptions and variations for certain ethnic backgrounds, age, and other factors where the healthy weight BMI range is generally:

  • lower for people of Asian background
  • higher for people of Polynesian background
  • higher for older people
  • higher for elite athletes with higher levels of lean body tissue
  • higher for pregnant women.

Because the BMI method doesn’t take fat or muscle into account,  it’s helpful to measure the waist as well.

Calculate body fat percentage

How BMI Is Used

BMI can be used to screen for possible health risk factors, but it is not a diagnostic tool.  To determine if one’s BMI could pose a potental risk,  further assessments such as skinfold thickness measurements, evaluation of diet, examining physical activity, and reviewing family history can be performed by a healthcare provider.

BMI Trends for Adults

Adult BMI scores greater than 30, which is considered obese status, have greatly increased since the 70s. This trend has levelled off recently for most groups except for adult women over the age of 60 for which rates continue to grow.

Measuring body fat percentage

How BMI is Calculated

BMI calculation is based on the following formulae:

Weight (kg) divided by [height (m)]C W (kg)/H (m2)=BMI

Because height is normally measured in centimetres, obtaining height in metres is done by dividing height in centimetres by 100.

Example: Weight = 68 kg, Height = 165 cm (1.65 m)

68 ÷ (1.65)2 = 24.98

Australian Adult Obesity Stats in 2022-2023

Statistics show that the obesity rates in Australia have consistently increased over the past few years and are projected to continue increasing even further. IBISWorld states that the obesity percentage in Australia will hit 73.4% in a few years.

  • Australia has had high obesity rates for several decades, with reported obesity levels in Australia rising from 29.5% in the 1970s to 32.6% in 2004-2005.
  • 66.6% of Australians in 2022 were overweight or obese.
  • Men had higher overweight rates than women in 2022.
  • The obesity rate was the same in both genders in 2022.
  • 42.2% of men aged 65 to 74 years old were obese.
  • 72.2% of adults in Australia’s more remote regions are considered obese.
BMI method

The rate of obesity in Australia not only affects  the lives of everyday citizens, it also affects the government.

  • Obesity-related medical treatments account for 8.6% of the nation’s health expenditures, lowering the labour market output by 371,000 full-time workers last year.
  • 36% of Australian adults (9,266,400) are overweight.
  • 31% of Australian adults (7,979,400) are obese.
  • There has been a 10% rise in obesity rates over the past 25 years.
  • Obesity rates in Australia are projected to increase by 2% in 2023.
  • 9% of Australian adults suffer from life-threatening obesity disorders.
  • More than 1 million Australians suffer from  type 2 diabetes due to obesity.
  • 16,700 deaths in 2022 were linked to obesity and type 2 diabetes.
  • Australians account for 4% of all obese adults worldwide.
  • 140 premature deaths are caused by obesity in Australia every day.
  • Australian males have the second-highest obesity rates in the world.
  • Australia is ranked 5th among OECDs (Organisations for Economic Cooperation and Development) in obesity rates.
  • Obesity affects  1 in every 4 children in Australia.

Obesity-Related Industries

Obesity-related industries have also been scaling up over the past few years with statistics showing considerable growth in the gym and weight loss service fields. Private hospitals and rehabs providing obesity-related services have also increased in numbers.

Reducing body fat prevents high blood pressure

Obesity Rates Among Men and Women

Obesity rates are distributed differently among men and women.

The proportion of men and women living with overweight or obesity generally increases with age.

  • The proportion increases from 52% for men aged 18–24 to 83% for men aged 45–54, levels out until age 65–74, and then decreases to 65% after the  age of 85.
  • The proportion increases from 40% for women aged 18–24, 73% for women aged 65–74, and then decreases to 61% after the age of 85.

Obesity in Different Age Groups

  • Among Australians, 18% of men and 14% of women aged 18–24 years are obese, compared with 42% of men and 39% of women from age 65 to 74.
  • Among Indigenous Australian women, the proportion increases from 60% at age 18–24 to 73% at age 25–34, and peaks at 83% at 45–54.

Overweight and Obesity Rates By Demographics and Socioeconomic Status

The number of Australians aged 18 and over who are obese varies by socioeconomic levels.

  • A greater proportion  (72%) of Australians living  in the lowest socioeconomic areas are overweight or obese, compared with those in the highest socioeconomic areas (62%).
  • A greater proportion of men (77%)  in the lowest socioeconomic areas are overweight or obese compared with those in the highest socioeconomic areas (73%).
  • A greater proportion of women (66%)  in the lowest socioeconomic areas are overweight or obese, compared with those in the highest socioeconomic areas (50%).

Obesity and Education

There is also a correlation  between obesity and income or educational levels.

  • Men and women with college degrees had lower  prevalence of obesity rates than those with less education.
  • Among men, obesity prevalence is lower in the lowest and highest income groups compared with those with middle-income status.

How Australia Compares Internationally

Overweight and obesity rates differ among citizens of  21 countries in the Organisation for European Co-operation and Development (OECD 2022).

  • Australia ranks 9th out of 21 countries for the proportion of people  over the age of 15 who are overweight or obese.
  • Australia had the 4th highest proportion of obesity among men (32%), behind New Zealand (33%), Hungary (36%) and the US (44%).
  •  Australia women ranked 9th out of 21 (29%) – higher than the OECD average of 26% for women.

Health Impacts of Overweight and Obesity Status

Disease burden is an assesment of the number of years of healthy life lost from living in ill health or dying prematurely from diseases or injuries. A portion of this burden is due to modifiable risk factors.

The 2nd leading risk factor after tobacco use contributing to ill health and premature death, obesity is responsible for 8.4% of the total disease burden in Australia. Overweight and obesity rates are linked to 30 diseases including 17 types of cancers, cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal conditions, type 2 diabetes, dementia, asthma, and chronic kidney disease.

In 2018, obesity was responsible for:

  • 55% of type 2 diabetes cases
  • 51% of hypertensive heart disease cases
  • 49% of uterine cancer cases
  • 43% of gout cases
  • 42% of chronic kidney disease cases

Obesity contributed to 16,400 deaths (10% of all deaths) in Australia in 2019.

Other Ways to Assess Excess Body Fat

In addition to the BMI method, there are other ways to assess body fat including the skinfold method, waist size, and waist-to-hip circumference.

Skinfold Method

Another way to estimate body fat, the skinfold method uses skinfold calipers to take skinfold measurements. This data can be helpful in determining health risks such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and other health concerns.

Measuring abdominal fat

Waist Circumference

Waist circumference can help predict the risk of some chronic medical conditions.

A higher waist circumference can indicate internal fat deposits that can coat the heart, kidneys, liver, and pancreas, increasing the risk of chronic medical conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.

Men and postmenopausal women are more likely to develop excess fat in the waist area.

Among men, a waist circumference of 94 cm or more is related to an increased risk for chronic disease. Among men, a waist size of 102 cm poses a greatly increased risk. Among women, a waist circumference of 8o cm or more poses an increased risk, while a waist size of 88 cm or more poses a greatly increased risk.  Generally, the larger the waist, the higher the risk of developing chronic conditions exists.

Body fat percentages

How to measure your waist:

  • Take off bulky clothing
  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Wrap a tape measure around the belly  in line with the belly button, and loose enough to fit one finger inside the tape.

Health experts commonly use waist measurement in conjunction with BMI to screen patients for possible weight-related health problems. While a helpful tool, waist size is just one indicator that may point to certain health conditions, and it is not used to singularly diagnose any condition or disease.

While health experts and physicians may use this method, anyone can  measure their own waist circumference at home.

Waist Circumference

Determining waist measurements can help predict certain  health conditions. While waist size alone cannot indicate that one has a medical condition or that one will develop one in the future, it can help a healthcare provider to determine where fat is located on the body and if that body fat may cause health problems like heart disease or type 2 diabetes in the future.

Recent reports show that 60% of men and 66% of women aged 18 and over have a waist size that poses an increased or substantially increased risk of health problems.

Waist-To-Hip Ratio

Waist-to-hip ratio (WTH) is a fast and easy way to assess fat distribution which can help determine a person’s overall risk for developing certain health conditions.

The WHR measurement involves using a tape measure to cheque the size of the waist and hips. WHR is found by dividing circumference of the waist by the circumference of the hips.

Body circumference measurements

How to Measure WHR

Take waist tape measurements: Wrap a tape measure around the narrowest part of the stomach, near or just above the belly button.

Take hip measurement by standing with feet directly beneath the hips and wrapping the measuring tape around the widest part of the hips and buttocks.

To calculate WHR, divide waist size by hip size.

The World Health Organization has established guidelines when assessing waist circumference and waist-hip ratio. A healthy WHR is 0.9 or less in men and 0.85 or less for women.

Feeding off of a collective hunger to lose weight, the multi-billion dollar diet industry plays on the public’s relentless search for effective weight loss medications that seem too good to be true—and usually are.  Frustrating, never-ending, and at times appearing pointless, decades of fad diets, dietary supplements, and prescription medicines with promises of quick and easy weight loss, have left the obese and overweight with little choices beyond surgery.

But the newest anti-obesity medication, semaglutide, still shooting up in popularity more than two years after being approved, is injecting hope into the helplessly overweight.

What is Semaglutide

Sold under the brand names, Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Wegovy, Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, or GLP-1 RAs,  which mimic the body’s GLP-1 hormone that is naturally released in the gut. Used to treat type-2 diabetes for 15 years,  the GLP-1 hormone prompts the body to produce more insulin, which works to control blood glucose levels.

When given in higher dosages, GLP-1 also interacts with the parts of the brain that suppress appetite and signal hunger satiation. When used in conjunction with diet and exercise, Semaglutide has not only shown to have promising results for the morbidly obese, obese, and overweight,  but it has been shown to reduce the risk of some types of cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

As the medical community begins to accept obesity as a chronic metabolic disease instead of blaming the condition on a person’s lack of willpower or sedentary lifestyle, semaglutide has been shown to be effective in the age-old struggle with losing weight.  But semaglutide, though recognized as a scientific breakthrough by many,  is not a cure for obesity nor is it right for everyone.

With no one-size-fits-all solution, obesity is a heterogenous, chronic, and complex condition that normally requires a lifelong commitment to manage.

Semaglutide for Weight Loss

As of the date of publication, Semaglutide has only been approved for weight loss under the brand name Wegovy. But as interest in semaglutide for weight loss continues to grow, and demand for Wegovy is outweighing supply, health care professionals have been prescribing other brands of semaglutide, such as Ozempic, for off-label use. Off-label is when a drug is used for a purpose other than the original reason it is TGA-approved.

But with so many people using semaglutide off-label for rapid weight loss, demand has become so high, that there is a shortage for people who need it as a diabetes medicine, the drug’s original purpose.

Semaglutide Effectiveness for Weight Loss Among Non-Diabetics

Though there have been other medications that work to suppress appetite, semaglutide performs on a whole new level.

In a study of obese adults, participants who only incorporated lifestyle changes lost about 2.4% of their weight, whereas 1/2 of the participants using semaglutide in conjunction with the exact same lifestyle changes  lost 15% of their body weight, with ⅓ losing as much as 20%. Since then, studies have continued to show similar results. It has also been revealed, however, that some participants regained the weight lost when semaglutide use stopped.

When it comes down to it, weight management will always involve a lifestyle intervention such as diet and exercise. That has not changed. But having anti-obesity medications available for many who struggled and failed with attempts to drop weight for years is extremely promising.

Possible Side Effects of Semaglutide

The side effects of semaglutide are generally mild.

  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Gas
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Pain
  • Bloating

For patients just starting semaglutide, GI issues are the most common complaint. Side effects can be reduced by beginning with a lower dose and then slowly increasing the dosage.

Serious symptoms, though rare, include allergic reactions, thyroid cancer, and low blood sugar.

Semaglutide injection

Who Should Take Semaglutide for Weight Loss?

The TGA recommends Wegovy for weight loss if you meet one of the following criteria:

  • BMI of 27 kg/m2 or higher, and at least one condition, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol
  • BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater

Who Should NOT Take Semaglutide for Weight Loss?

  • Anyone with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2;
  • gallbladder disease;
  • pancreatitis;
  • Or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)

Before considering semaglutide, consult your primary care physician as they know your personal and family medical history and can guide you in the best treatment for your condition.

Unexpected semaglutide popularity began to rise in the last year thanks to a social media frenzy. The increase in demand for the drug for weight loss has caused a worldwide shortage, leaving those who need it waiting in the wings.

How Semaglutide Works

Semaglutide acts on appetite centers in the brain, increasing the feeling of fullness and slowing down the emptying of †he stomach’s contents.

It affects the secretion of insulin and glucagon, which is why it is so effective in diabetes.

Semaglutide has been reported to reduce the risk of heart disease. Other medications in the past have reduced weight but increased the risk of heart attack, which made them dangerous.

Semaglutide Injection Best Practices

  • Read and follow enclosed instructions carefully before each use and ask your doctor if you have any questions.
  • Semaglutide injections are given as a shot under the skin on the upper stomach, thighs, or upper arm.
  • Alternate injection site each time you give yourself a shot.
  • Always check the liquid in the pen. It should be clear and colorless. Do not use it if it is cloudy, discolored, or has particles in it.
  • Use a new needle each time you inject your medicine.
  • Never share medicine pens with others under any circumstances. Sharing needles or pens can transmit infection.
  • Use this medicine on the same day each week with or without meals.

Dosing

The dose will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor’s directions and do not change unless your doctor tells you to do so.

Missed Dose

If you accidentally miss a dose, just take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double up doses.

If you miss a dose for more than 2 weeks, ask your doctor about how to restart your treatment.

Storage

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.

Store the opened Ozempic® pen in the refrigerator for 56 days or the opened Wegovy pen in the refrigerator for 28 days. Throw away the pen after 56 days for Ozempic® or 28 days for Wegovy®, even if it still has medicine in it.

Throw away used needles in a hard, closed container so the needles cannot poke through.

How Much Does Semaglutide Cost?

With an average cost in Australia at $130 a month, one of the greatest barriers to semaglutide for weight loss is the cost.

Obesity is more common in lower income groups, so those who would benefit the most may be the least able to afford it. This lack of equity must be wrestled with if this medication becomes widely used for obesity management.

Downsides of Semaglutide

Societal pressure to be skinny is a powerful incentive to lose weight, especially in a world where obesity is stigmatized. The potential for semaglutide to be used by people who are not obese is a risk worth noting. Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of over 30, and overweight is BMI of 25-30. Because it suppresses appetite, it might enable people with certain eating disorders or those with lower BMIs.

Another downside is the drug’s impact on socialization.  Because patients feel full after just a few bites, meals with friends and family can be awkward.

Less common Constipation hair loss Rare Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of the skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site change in taste loss of taste Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. Why Doctors Prescribe Semaglutide for Weight Loss

Obesity management should always start with lifestyle interventions such as reducing caloric intake and increasing physical activity.

But when these efforts have failed in the past, options have been limited. While the most effective option, bariatric surgery, is generally well-tolerated and effective, it is a lifelong change.

Inject semaglutide

Celebrity Semaglutide Weight Loss

Ozempic is the newest craze taking over Hollywood for chronic weight management. While stars like Kyle Richards have denied using the Type II diabetes medication, others have spoken out about their decision to use the drug to shed weight quickly.

Tracy Morgan

During an August 2023 appearance on the Today Show, Tracy Morgan admitted taking Ozempic injections.

“It cuts my appetite in half,” reported Morgan, “now I only eat half a bag of Doritos.”

As for his gym routine, the actor added, “I get up at seven every morning, and I’m in the gym at 10.”

Amy Schumer

Schumer admitted that she lost weight using Ozempik, but had to stop taking the drug because it made her feel sick.

Shumer slammed celebrities who lie about using the weight-loss drug.

“Everyone has been lying saying, ‘Oh smaller portions.’ Like shut the f—k up.”

Sharon Osbourne

Though the former reality star did not specify which medication she used, Sharon Osborn said it helped her lose 30 pounds in just four months but that she got “very sick” and had to stop.

Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler was also on the weight-loss drug, but has since stopped because it made her nauseous.

“I’m not on (semaglutide) anymore,” she clarified. “I’m an irresponsible drug user… it’s not right for me.”

Elon Musk

Elon Musk admitted to using semaglutide for weight management. When asked about his secret, the billionaire tweeted, “Fasting” and “Wegovy.”

Non-invasive body contouring treatments like truSculpt iD use radiofrequency energy to kill fat cells in the treated area. But as effective as this procedure is, don’t expect to walk out of the provider’s office looking immediately thinner. Once the treatment has been performed, your body has to get to work to break down the destroyed fat cells and filter them through the lymphatic system and ultimately eliminate them.

Fat cell excretion begins immediately but the process can last as long as six months. After three weeks, clients may see a significant change but depending on the part of the body being treated, optimal results can take from three to six months. The difference between a client who sees progress within a few weeks versus one who has to wait a few months to see visible results is the lymphatic system. The smoother things are running in your body’s circulatory system, the quicker the excess fluid buildup will flush from the body. The lymphatic system plays a huge role in the fat cell excretion process.

There are several things you can do to help speed up the process to get your lymphatic circulation system to work harder, faster,  and smarter, including specialised massage, eating healthy, exercising regularly, and staying hydrated. The lymphatic system doesn’t pump like the heart. The body’s movements are what help the lymph fluid work its way through the arteries and tissues to flush bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, dead cells, and other toxins. Lymphatic movement doesn’t have to be 8 hours a week on the treadmill or running a marathon.  It can be as simple as boosting your water intake, incorporating breathing techniques, and adding gentle massage into your daily routine.

Drinking plenty of water for optimal results after truScupt iD treatment

Drinking Plenty of Water

Water is the one resource  that’s free, obtainable, and healthy. Drinking water after truSculpt iD treatment helps lymphatic circulation to work more effectively since more water leads to more frequent trips to the bathroom and metabolic waste—which is how those fat cells get flushed out.

Tip: Avoid detox teas, diuretics, and laxatives which can disrupt the body’s hydration and electrolyte balance. They will not speed up the removal of fat cells. They’ll only cause dehydration.

Eating healthy for weight loss.

Eating a Healthy Diet

There’s no shortcut to take in the diet department. Low-fat proteins, fruits, vegetables, and healthy grains are your best bets, nutritionally. It’s also imperative to avoid processed foods and anything high in sugar or sodium which tend to interfere with cellular function.

Exercising improves health conditions, aids in weight loss, and speeds up lymphatic drainage.

Exercising Regularly

Exercise plays a critical role in increasing and maintaining fat reduction and improving overall health. Physical movement raises the heart rate and increases blood flow which supports the lymph system.

Tip: The act of sweating alone does not rid the body of toxins. The  liver and kidneys are responsible for detoxification; not your skin and sweat glands.

Using very light pressure, lymphatic drainage massages work to rid the body of more fluid and speed up fat reduction

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

The cardiovascular system continuously pumps blood through the body, but the lymphatic system relies on the movement of smooth muscles to transport lymphatic fluid through the lymph vessels. To speed this process along, manual lymphatic drainage massage techniques, similar to deep tissue massage, performed with light pressure, releases tension and inflammation from the muscles, and assists with lymph flow.

Below are a few at-home manual lymphatic massage techniques that can help.

Tip: After manual lymph massage therapy,  it’s important to stay hydrated.

Chest

  1. Place your palm flat on the sides of the chest, slightly above the breast.
  2. Using very light pressure with sweeping motions, move your hand up the chest and over the collarbone.
  3. Continue up the neck until the skin covering the chest feels tight.
  4. Release.

Arms

  1. Starting with the left arm, beginning at the shoulder, use your palm to stretch the skin upward.
  2. Using gentle pressure, move down to the upper arm and stretch the skin up toward the shoulder.
  3. Continue down the arm, always moving the skin upward and stopping at the wrist.
  4. Release.
  5. Repeat on right arm.

Legs/Lower Body

  1. Using gentle pressure, start massaging at the top of the left leg and work down toward the feet.
  2. Put one hand on the inside of the opposite thigh, near the groin, and place the other hand on the buttock.
  3. Gently stretch the skin, using sweeping motions, moving the hand on the inside of the thigh toward the outside of the thigh and up.
  4. Using gentle pressure, move hands further down the the lower leg and repeat, stopping when you get to the knee.
  5. Place one hand on the shin and the other hand on the back of the calf and gently stretch the skin upward.
  6. Continue this motion, working down toward the ankle and top of the foot.
  7. Repeat on right leg.

Fingers and toes

  1. Use your thumb and index finger to guide fluid from the base of the toes toward the foot and the base of the fingers toward the palm.

Taking deep breaths

Deep Breathing

By acting like a pump that helps move fluid through the lymph nodes, deep breathing is an essential practise for promoting relaxation and mental well-being, optimal functioning of the body’s systems, and addressing health problems. Taking purposeful and intentional deep breaths also helps to improve circulation and speed up lymphatic drainage.

By placing both hands on your stomach,  inhaling through your nose, expanding your stomach while keeping your shoulders still, then exhaling, you can stimulate the lymph nodes in your neck.

Gentle movements help move lymphatic fluid through the system

Rolling

A popular wellness trend,  rolling, which uses a foam or wooden device,  encourages lymphatic drainage by stimulating fascia,  the connective tissue that separates muscle from internal organs. Fascia also holds the lymph nodes, which filter the lymphatic system; eliminate bacteria, viruses, and cancerous cells from the body;  and may also reduce cellulite by reducing fat and speeding up metabolism.

truSculpt iD in Loom – Hunter Valley

TruSculpt® Non-Invasive Body Contouring

TruSculpt iD®, a non-surgical, non-surgical fat reduction procedure, uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to destroy fat cells throughout the entire fat layer, from just below the skin down to the muscle.

How TruSculpt® Non-Invasive Fat Reduction Treatment Works

Delivering radio frequency energy through the skin, the fat cells absorb the energy in the form of heat, destroying the stubborn fat without harming the skin. Once destroyed, the body naturally takes over and flushes out the fat cells through the lymphatic system.

TruSculpt iD®  treatment commonly requires 2 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart.  Maximum results are visible after approximately 10-12 weeks, however some patients begin to see improvement after as little as 4 weeks.  Trusculpt does not remove the fat, but rather causes fat cell death.  This disruption of cells allows the fat to leak and shrink and are gradually expelled naturally by the body.

By practising the steps outlined above, clients can help the lymphatic system to expel the fat cells faster.

Takeaway

Celebrities are just like everybody else. They have the same sense of insecurities, body image issues, and difficulties with losing weight. The big difference between these stars and the rest of us is that their struggles happen in front of the eyes of the world with embarrassing before and after pictures popping up all over social media and those sensationalistic rags in supermarket lines.

When it comes right down to it, we’re all human and they deserve to be given the same credit and understanding as the rest of us. When it comes to losing weight, the most important thing to remember is that beauty is only skin deep and true beauty lies within us all.

A body sculpting staple for decades, liposuction has met its match with noninvasive fat reduction treatments that are challenging this OG surgical option. TruSculpt Non-Invasive Fat Reduction is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments on the market today, but with so many options, it’s tough for people to decide which is right for them. If you ever wondered whether to undergo trusculpt or liposuction surgery, read on.

What is Liposuction?

There are no two ways about it; liposuction is a surgical procedure involving anaesthesia, incisions, pain, and post-procedure recovery, which can last up to three months. Also known as suction-assisted lipectomy, the procedure involves removing small to moderate localised deposits of fat on targeted areas such as the abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, and upper arms.

The liposuction procedure involves inserting an instrument called a cannula, a hollow tube that is inserted into the fatty areas by way of small incisions, and moving it around to loosen the excess fat. Similar to a vacuum cleaner, the fat is then suctioned out using a cannula connected to a vacuum or hand held syringe. Because of the movement inside the fat, the procedure causes significant trauma to the targeted area.

Because of the recovery time, pain, and cost, together with fears associated with surgery, the procedure has fallen out of favour now that less painful, non-invasive treatments.

Liposuction Recovery and Associated Post-Surgical Pain

Just the thought of undergoing a surgical procedure to reduce body fat might be daunting for people thinking about liposuction surgery. The fear of bruising, discomfort, and downtime surrounding the procedure has also scared more than a few patients away.

One of the most significant roadblocks to liposuction for many people considering liposuction surgical fat reduction is the significant pain and discomfort most patients experience after the procedure.  Depending on the areas treated, patients can experience significant  pain when sitting, standing, walking, or getting out of bed for seven to ten days.

It takes most liposuction patients about three months to feel completely normal again, with the worst discomfort resolving after the first month.

In addition to the pain, patients must wear a compression garment for several months after surgery. This can be uncomfortable and awkward. Additionally, many surgeons forbid cardio exercises like cycling, swimming, running, and even fast walking for the first month.

Invasive surgery for removing excess fat cells

Steps of Liposuction Surgery

  1. Liposuction typically begins with the administration of anaesthesia.
  2. Next a small incision is made near the areas being treated. This could be one or multiple points of entry.
  3. A small cannula (hollow tube) is inserted into the incisions and moved around to dislodge fat in the surrounding area. The fat is suctioned out with a vacuum attached to the cannula or a handheld syringe.
  4. The incisions are then closed, usually with dissolvable stitches, and recovery begins.

Liposuction Recovery Process

After the liposuction surgery is complete, patients are dressed in compression garments to reduce swelling. Some bruising, redness, tenderness, soreness, itchiness, and discomfort can be expected. Depending on the individual’s pain tolerance, there are some patients that do well with over-the-counter pain medications like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen after liposuction, while many require prescription pain medications.

Though the compression garments help to keep swelling to a minimum, it can take several months for the swelling to subside completely. The swelling will reduce significantly with each passing week.

Post-Liposuction Care Kit

Before surgery, make sure you have the following items easily accessible:

  • Comfortable, loose clothing
  • Towels to sit on to absorb any leaking fluids
  • Pillows
  • Bottles of water
  • Soda crackers and/or ginger tea  for nausea
  • Pain medication
Health complication following fat eliminating surgical procedures

What to Expect from Days One through 90 Following Liposuction Surgery

First Day After Liposuction Surgery

  • Expect to feel sore for the first 24 hours. Pain medication may be utilized at this time to ease discomfort.
  • It is normal for bloody fluid to drain on clothes and sheets for the first 24 hours. Don’t worry! The fluid is put into the area before liposuction to make fat removal safer.
  • Following the surgeon’s post-care instructions is imperative. Rest as much as possible during the first day.  Compression garments can be a little uncomfortable at this time and take some getting used to.
  • Avoid unnecessary movement. Ask family and friends to assist you at this time.
  • Mild bruising, swelling, and some bloody fluid coming out of the incision is normal after surgery. These symptoms should gradually subside within 2–6 weeks.

The First 72 Hours After Liposuction Surgery

  • It is common for bloody fluid to drain on clothes and sheets for the first 72 hours after surgery. Don’t worry! The fluid is put into the area before liposuction to make fat removal safer.
  • Your compression garment should be worn at all times except during showering. Compression garments reduce swelling and speed up your recovery. Your plastic surgeon will let you know when you can stop wearing the garment.
  • It is usually advised that you move every two hours to prevent blood clots. This also helps keep fluids moving and reduce swelling.
  • Continue avoiding exercising during the first 72 hours.

The First Month After Liposuction Surgery

  • Though mild discomfort is normal for the first month, the first week is usually the most challenging period for patients and will subside as the month moves along.
  • Some residual swelling is still expected after the first month, but at this point, you will start seeing some of the initial results.
  • If you work outside the home, you might be able to return to work and start light exercise after the first month.
  • Remember to follow your provider’s instructions to the letter.

90 Days After Liposuction Surgery

  • Three months after liposuction is normally when patients notice the treated areas beginning to appear tighter and smoother.
  • Scars from the incisions will have faded at this point and should be barely noticeable and easy to hide.
  • By day 90, you should feel like you’re finally getting back to normal and results will be more apparent.

Can I Shower After Liposuction Surgery?

Even though liposuction surgery doesn’t  involve large incisions, it is important to know how to care for your body after the procedure. This includes bathing. Though some  surgeons will allow you to shower 24 hours after surgery, many may want you to keep your initial compression garments on for 2–3 days, which means you won’t be able to shower until after that period. When you do finally shower, run soapy water over the areas. Do not scrub or use a washcloth, loofa, or other bathing tool. Gently pat the area dry with a clean towel. Avoid  non-running water such as baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, lakes, rivers, and oceans for the first 2 weeks.

* Follow your provider’s directions to the letter to stay safe and to ensure you’ll have the best results.

Realistic expectations following invasive procedure for fat removal

Will Fat Cells Return After Liposuction Surgery?

Because the body will not produce new fat cells as long as the patient maintains a stable body weight after the procedure, most patients do not experience a re-growth in fat cells in the treated area after liposuction. In general, the adult human body cannot generate new fat cells. The fat loss in the liposuction treated sites is permanent, and the fat cells removed from a specific area will not return.

When Will I Notice Results After Liposuction Surgery?

As with any surgery, it takes time for maximum visual results to appear after liposuction. The rate varies from patient to patient, influenced by factors like genetics, skin quality, diet, and water consumption. Having another procedure at the same time, such as a tummy tuck, can also affect the amount of time it takes to see results. Most patients begin to see visible results eight to twelve weeks after surgery with continued improvements for the next six months.

Nonsurgical fat reduction treatments

The TruSculpt Alternative

TruSculpt iD is a non-surgical, non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to eliminate fat cells throughout the entire fat layer, from just below the skin down to the muscle. It’s commonly used to contour the abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, the chin, and the upper arms when other weight loss method efforts have failed. An alternative to liposuction, truSculpt does not involve the use of scalpels or stitches, and can be done in an office setting without anaesthesia, pain, or downtime.

What is truSculpt® iD?

TruSculpt iD uses Monopolar Radio Frequency technology to target fat cells selectively. Using a handpiece that emits the radio frequency energy, the device is placed over the targeted area, while pulses of energy cause fat cells to heat up and shrink, promoting skin contraction for a slimming and smoothing effect. Easily adjusted to conform to each patient’s needs, the level of heat can be adapted, so each person feels comfortable and experiences very little to no pain.

TruSculpt iD  is a clinically proven, highly effective, and completely safe treatment that permanently eliminates fat cells from even the hardest-to-reach areas. truSculpt® iD is the only TGA-approved device of its kind that offers a non-invasive treatment option for body sculpting and fat reduction.  It has been clinically proven to permanently reduce fat by up to 24% in as little as one treatment.

Nonsurgical body contouring

TruSculpt Procedure

By delivering radio frequency energy through the skin, fat cells absorb the energy in the form of heat, effectively destroying the unsightly fat without harming the skin at all. Once destroyed, the body naturally takes over and flushes out the old fat cells through the lymphatic system.

The procedure, which takes from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated, feels like a warm sensation on the skin, similar to a hot stone massage. Patients have not reported any pain or discomfort during  the procedure and no prescription pain medications, cooling gels, or compression garments are required. Mild redness, swelling, and tenderness can last for approximately 10-12 hours, for which patients are advised to take mild OTC analgesics such as Tylenol.

TruSculpt iD treatment requires 2 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart.  Maximum results are visible after approximately 10-12 weeks, however some patients begin to see improvement after as little as 4 weeks.  Whereas liposuction actually removes fat through a hollow tube and suction instrument, Trusculpt does not remove the fat, but rather causes fat cell death.  This disruption of cells allows the fat to leak and shrink and are gradually expelled naturally by the body.

TruSculpt Aftercare

The zero-downtime benefit makes TruSculpt iD a very appealing option. Drinking lots of water is important. It helps the fat cells travel through the lymphatic system and start to digest throughout the body.

Unlike liposuction, there are no restrictions on exercise or normal activities associated with TruSculpt iD  treatment.

When Will I See Results After TruSculpt Treatment?

The procedure takes just a few minutes, and you can expect to see full results 6-12 weeks after your last treatment–that’s the amount of time  your body needs time to clear away the destroyed fat.

With TruSculpt iD,  patients can get the definition they desire, even in treatment. areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise. One of the main advantages of TruSculpt iD  is that it is a simple procedure, requiring no anesthetic, no downtime, minimal discomfort, and maybe most importantly, no knives or needles!

Common Areas of TruSculpt Treatment

Thanks to the size of the handpiece,  TruSculpt iD can address a variety of concerns and target hard-to-reach areas of the body including the face, upper arms, inner thighs, abdomen, flanks, and back regardless of loose skin or skin laxity.

Commonly Addressed Target Areas

  • Double chin
  • Belly fat
  • Love handles (flanks)
  • Inner and outer thigh fat
  • Back fat
  • Wobbly upper arms
  • Butt fat

If you’re struggling with stubborn fat beneath the jaw, around the neckline, on your abdomen, flanks, inner or outer thighs, or upper arms, you’re not alone. Thanks to TruSculpt iD, a slimmer look can be yours in just a few minutes. The number of TruSculpt iD treatments required varies from person to person. That’s why we invite you to give us a call to set up a consultation.  Once we have an idea  of the problem and your goals, we’ll come up with an appropriate treatment plan that works for you.

Because the procedure is non-invasive, there’s no downtime or recovery period. You simply come in, sit back, and let us work our magic. Then you can get on with the rest of your day as if nothing has happened.

How Do Liposuction Surgery and TruSculpt Nonsurgical Fat Reduction Treatment Compare?

In 2000, over 350,000 Americans underwent liposuction, making it the most popular cosmetic surgery that year. But in 2022, that number dropped dramatically, to just over 200,000.

While it seems that our population is getting heavier,  the number of people undergoing liposuction is getting smaller.

One reason for the decrease in fat-removing surgical procedures is the emergence of TGA-approved devices that eliminate body fat without diet, exercise, or surgery.

One common feature of both liposuction and TruSculpt iD is that maximum results take time to appear.  But that’s really where the comparison ends.

Non-invasive, non-surgical TruSculpt iD is the latest fat reduction treatment that permanently eliminates up to 24% of unwanted fat with no pain, zero downtime, and no knives or needles needed.

With TruSculpt iD, patients can go back to their regular day-to-day lives immediately following their session.  There are no restrictions on activities including exercise.  In fact, patients are encouraged to exercise in concert with a healthy diet to derive maximum benefit from the treatment.

TruSculpt is painless, and involves no incisions and no special garments to support the therapy.  And yet, people who’ve undergone truSculpt enjoy striking results, beginning only weeks after the conclusion of their treatments.  These are progressive, becoming more noticeable with time.

Because TruSculpt iD causes no damage to any soft tissue except the fat itself, there’s no bruising and no downtime.  Your body naturally eliminates the contents of fat cells over time, leaving your skin taut and your body sculpted.

Liposuction, on the other hand, is a good option for people who want to eliminate larger areas of fat.  The procedure is highly effective at removing unwanted stubborn  fat in the most common problem areas – inner and outer  thighs, abdomen, love handles, back, upper arms, face and neck. The results of liposuction are dramatic and striking. But liposuction definitely has its downsides: a long recovery period (often up to six weeks) and cost. The cost for liposuction is  quite a bit more than its nonsurgical counterparts because it is a surgical procedure involving anaesthesia  and the use of an operating room of some type.

The Skinny on Non-Invasive Fat Reduction

Specialist Skin Solutions in Lorn is proud to have incorporated the Cutera truSculpt® iD body contouring system into our clinic of medical grade cosmetic devices. A revolutionary, nonsurgical sculpting treatment that eliminates fat cells in the hardest-to-reach areas, truSculpt®  allows you to personalise your treatment to achieve the results you desire.

TruSculpt® is a clinically proven and safe technology that can permanently eliminate fat cells from stubborn areas such as the abdomen, flanks, upper back, inner and outer thighs, chin, and upper arms. What is TruSculpt iD®?

The trusculpt id treatment a non-surgical, non-invasive fat reduction procedure that uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to destroy fat cells throughout the entire fat layer, from just below the skin down to the muscle. Commonly used to contour the abdomen, flanks, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, the chin, and the upper arms, truSculpt is an alternative to liposuction that does not involve the use of scalpels or stitches.

TruSculpt iD® is a clinically proven, highly effective, and completely safe treatment that permanently eliminates fat cells from even the hardest-to-reach areas. truSculpt iD is the only TGA-approved device of its kind that offers a non-invasive treatment option for body sculpting and fat reduction.  It has been clinically proven to permanently reduce fat by up to 24% in as little as one treatment.

Trusculpt body sculpting treatment eliminates stubborn fat in multiple areas

How truSculpt® Works

Using a handpiece, TruSculpt iD uses Monopolar Radio Frequency technology to target fat cells selectively. The device is placed over the targeted area, while pulses of energy cause fat cells to heat up and shrink. Then the fat cells are eliminated by passing through the body naturally. Easily adjusted to conform to each patient’s needs, the level of heat can be adapted, so each person feels comfortable and experiences very little to no pain.

Most patients see an average of 24% in fat reduction after just one treatment though some require two treatments to achieve their desired results.

Personalised body sculpting treatment using radio frequency energy in Newcastle

TruSculpt iD® Procedure

By delivering radio frequency energy through the skin, fat cells absorb the energy in the form of heat, effectively destroying the unsightly fat without harming the skin at all. Once destroyed, the body naturally takes over and flushes out the old fat cells through the lymphatic system.

The procedure, which takes from 15 to 60 minutes,  feels similar to a hot stone massage. Patients have not reported any pain or discomfort during  the procedure and no prescription pain medications, cooling gels, or compression garments are required. Mild redness, swelling, and tenderness can last for approximately 10-12 hours, for which patients are advised to take mild OTC pain medication such as Tylenol.

TruSculpt iD® treatment normally requires 1 to 2 sessions, 4-6 weeks apart.  Maximum results are visible after approximately 10-12 weeks, however some patients begin to see improvement after as little as 4 weeks.  Whereas liposuction actually removes fat through a hollow tube and suction instrument, TruSculpt iD®  does not remove the fat, but rather causes fat cell death.  This disruption of cells allows the fat to leak through lymphatic system, shrink, and gradually expel.

How TruSculpt iD® is Different From Other Non Surgical Body Sculpting Treatments

  • The  TruSculpt iD procedure is more versatile and effective in treating body fat on any body part,  even the smaller, hard-to-reach areas.
  •  TruSculpt iD®  works for a wide range of patients who may not be a candidate for other contouring procedures due to skin types, fat thickness, and presence of skin laxity on certain areas of the body.
  • The non invasive treatment has minimal discomfort and has been compared to a hot stone massage. No prescription pain medication is normally needed.
  • There is no visible downtime after the procedure and the patient can resume their normal routine and participate in normal activities.
  •  TruSculpt iD®  helps tighten the skin in the treatment area.
  • The treatment time is dependant on the treatment size, fat thickness,  and how many areas are being treated but treatment time is only 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Only 1 or 2 treatments are generally required to achieve the personalised results you desire. Maximum results are visible 12 weeks after treatment.

TruSculpt iD® Aftercare

The zero-downtime benefit, allowing patients to immediately return to work, makes TruSculpt iD® a very appealing option. Drinking lots of water and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important. It helps the fat cells travel through the lymphatic system and start to digest throughout the body.

Unlike invasive surgery like liposuction, there are no restrictions. Exercise and work can be resumed immediately associated with TruSculpt iD®  treatment and patients

When Will I See Results After TruSculpt iD® Treatment?

The procedure takes just a few minutes, and you can expect to see full results 6-12 weeks after your first session—that’s the amount of time your body needs time to clear away the destroyed fat.

TruSculpt iD® can help achieve desired definition even in stubborn areas that haven’t responded to diet and exercise. The procedure is advantageous because it’s easy and painless, with no need for anesthesia, downtime, knives, or needles.

Common Areas of TruSculpt iD® Treatment

Thanks to the size of the handpiece, TruSculpt iD® can address a variety of concerns and target hard-to-reach areas of the face,  upper arms, inner thighs, abdomen, flanks, and back regardless of loose skin or skin laxity.

Common concerns addressed by TruSculpt iD® :

  • Double chin
  • Belly fat
  • Love handles (flanks)
  • Inner and outer thigh fat
  • Back fat
  • Wobbly upper arms
  • Butt fat

During the nine long months of pregnancy, many beauty routines and cosmetic procedures have to be put on hold. Once you’ve finally made it through to the other side and your beautiful newborn is in your loving arms, there will undoubtedly be times when sleep deprivation and the stress of new motherhood will show on your face and excess weight show on your body.  As a new mum, you might be excited to get back to your favourite beauty regimens or try something new. But for nursing mums, concerns over which treatments are safe and which are not will continue—if, not escalate.

New mothers generally drop approximately 5.5 kilos (12 pounds) as the uterus shrinks, but some stubborn fat persists long after giving birth. But it’s important not to be so tough on yourself. If you’re worried that your body hasn’t ‘bounced back’ right away, that’s because it’s not supposed to! You’re a human being—not a rubber band, and your body isn’t going to just snap back into place as if nothing even happened. It takes time.

Weight reduction timelines vary from person-to-person, and depend on a variety of circumstances like how much weight was gained during pregnancy, whether the mum is breastfeeding, diet and exercise habits, and activity level. For lactating mums, the time it takes to get back to pre-pregnancy physique can be even longer and more unpredictable as the body is still producing nutrients for the mum and her growing baby.

There is good news, however. While many of the fat-reduction and other cosmetic treatments that were off limits during pregnancy are also not recommended for the nursing mum, there are some treatments that are safe and available while breastfeeding.

The most important thing to know when discussing cosmetic procedures while breastfeeding is the potential risk of chemicals being absorbed into the mother’s system and then into breast milk and whether they can be harmful to a baby’s development.

One of the least painful body sculpting procedures with minimal discomfort, truSculpt feels similar to a hot stone massage

What Science Says

According to two articles published in Dermatological Surgery and the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology, some cosmetic procedures are safe to use during lactation because there is little concern for significant systemic absorption of any of the agents used in these procedures.

Coolsculpting

CoolSculpting is not recommended for lactating mums because frozen fat cells that are destroyed and removed by the body during the CoolSculpting procedure could potentially make their way into a mother’s breast milk. It is highly recommended that lactating mothers should wait until they’ve finished breastfeeding before having a CoolSculpting procedure. But always consult your physician.

Breastfeeding may also result in hormonal changes. As a new mum’s hormones settle, the body tends to shift, resulting in unfavourable outcomes. To achieve the best outcomes, it’s advisable to wait around 6 months after nursing.

TruSculpt for Nursing Mums

While fat-reduction treatments of any kind are not recommended during pregnancy, non- invasive procedures like TruSculpt iD on areas of the body other than the breasts are safe and effective while nursing, there is often a period of weight loss that naturally comes with breastfeeding often a period of weight loss naturally with breastfeeding after pregnancy. After this period, TruSculpt iD can be a great method of melting stubborn fat in many areas.

Just like the case with the treatment of fat, many pregnancy-related cosmetic conditions will settle or change in the months after giving birth, so it may be worth waiting until hormones are back to normal and regular diet and exercise routines are resumed. Pregnancy is a magical time and the truth is, the most important thing is the health of the baby, but if after dropping a majority of your pregnancy weight you still have areas of stubborn fat that won’t go away with diet and exercise alone, truSculpt iD is an excellent solution for nursing moms.

What is truSculpt® iD?

TruSculpt iD is a non-surgical, non-invasive fat reduction procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to improve body definition, boost skin tightening, and destroy fat cells throughout the entire fat layer, from just below the skin down to the muscle. It’s commonly used to contour multiple areas including the abdomen and flanks, inner and outer thighs, the chin, and the upper arms. An alternative to invasive procedures like abdominoplasty or liposuction surgery, truSculpt does not involve the use of scalpels or stitches, and can be done in an office setting without anaesthesia, pain, or downtime in less than one hour.

TruSculpt iD uses innovative monopolar rf technology to target fat cells selectively in treatment areas. Using a handpiece the device is placed over the targeted area, while pulses of energy cause fat cells to heat up and shrink, promoting skin contraction for a slimming and smoothing effect. Easily adjusted to conform to each patient’s needs, the level of heat can be adapted, so each person feels comfortable and experiences very little to no pain.

TruSculpt iD is a clinically proven, highly effective, and completely safe treatment that permanently eliminates fat cells from even the hardest-to-reach areas. truSculpt® iD is the only TGA-approved device of its kind that offers a non-invasive treatment option for body sculpting and fat reduction, resulting in the dream body everyone desires.  It has been clinically proven to permanently reduce fat by up to 24% in as little as one treatment. Additional treatments may be required depending on fat thickness, skin type, number of treatment areas, and whether the patient has previously undergone other contouring procedures.

For men, in particular, this tends to show up on the abdomen and flanks, jawline, and chest.  For some, plastic surgery might be an option. But for many, for whom invasive procedures aren’t the road of preferable travel, there have been huge advancements in the area of nonsurgical procedures for reducing fat and tightening skin. These innovative treatments have made  it possible to turn back the hands of time without resorting to surgery—a huge plus for men who have less tolerance for pain or are too busy to sacrifice any visible downtime.

Male Body Contouring for the Abdomen and Flanks

The midsection is probably the single greatest area of concern for many men for whom having tight, flat abs with visible abdominal muscles, also known as the “six-pack,” represents an ideal body image.  Unfortunately,  some men develop a gut no matter how many sit-ups or plans they might do or how little carbs and calories they eat.  But the good news is, the excess fat on the outside of the abdominal  is treatable with nonsurgical procedures.  The most popular fat reduction techniques are TruSculpt iD® and Coolsculpting®.

Fat-reduction procedures for a crisp jawline

A crisp jawline is one of the signs for a youthful-look among men. Though some men aren’t born this way, some lose this definition with age. The area under the chin is a prime spot for excess fat in men. For older men or men who have loose or lax neck skin may benefit the most with TruSculpt iD®, which uses radiofrequency energy to heat up the tissue in the treatment area. The result is a smoother, tighter, more lifted looking jawline.

Selectively target fat with TruSculpt

Benefits of truSculpt® iD over CoolSculpting

Both truSculpt® iD and CoolSculpting are non-invasive fat removal treatments but there are a few differences between the two treatments.

1) truSculpt® iD Treats All Areas of Fat: While CoolSculpting and other contouring procedures are limited to certain areas of the body, truSculpt® iD has the capability of treating fat cells in stubborn areas, even the smallest area of fat, with success. Maximum results are visible in the treatment location after just one treatment. Depending on fat thickness, however, additional treatments may be required to remove an entire fat layer and achieve the personalised results you desire.

2) Tightens Skin: One of the differences between the two treatments is that truSculpt® iD provides skin tightening, body definition, and textural improvement to the area being treated. The skin tightening is a secondary benefit to target cellulite and loose skin that results after weight fluctuations and pregnancy.

3) Permanently Destroys Fat Cells: truSculpt® iD doesn’t immediately eliminate the treated fat cells; it permanently destroys them. Once treated with innovative monopolar rf technology radio frequency energy, the fat cells of the body are flushed out.

As long as the patient maintains a healthy eating and fitness regime after truSculpt® iD treatment,  results will last for the long term.

Most people see results within 3–7 weeks and see maximum results within three months. If there’s an inch or less of fat, sufficient results will be seen after one treatment. To address more than that,  multiple treatments are suggested.

Unlike other contouring procedures, TruSculpt is the only treatment that also improves skin laxity

Downtime after truSculpt® iD

Feeling like a hot stone massage, the truSculpt® iD system is safe, comfortable, and non-invasive, allowing patients to resume normal activities immediately.

Side Effects of truSculpt® iD

One of the benefits of truSculpt® iD is that there are few if any, side effects related to the procedure. Some minor side effects include:

  • Redness
  • Sweating
  • Mild tenderness in the treated areas

Is the Pain After truSculpt® iD?

truSculpt® iD uses innovative Monopolar of technology to target fat cells selectively. Using a handpiece that emits the radio frequency energy, the device is placed over the targeted area, while pulses of energy cause fat cells to heat up and shrink, promoting skin contraction for a slimming and smoothing effect. Easily adjusted to conform to each patient’s needs, the level of heat can be adapted, so each person feels comfortable and experiences only minimal discomfort in the treatment area.

Is truSculpt® iD  Safe?

One of the main advantages of truSculpt® iD over other body sculpting procedures is that it is a simple and comfortable procedure, requiring no anaesthetic, no downtime, and maybe most importantly, no knives or needles!

truSculpt® iD is a non-invasive,  clinically proven, highly effective, and completely safe treatment that permanently eliminates fat cells from even hard-to-reach areas. truSculpt® iD is the only TGA-approved device of its kind that offers a non-invasive treatment option for body sculpting and fat reduction.  It has been clinically proven to permanently reduce fat by up to 24% in as little as one treatment.

By delivering radio frequency energy through the skin, fat cells absorb the energy in the form of heat, effectively destroying the unsightly body fat without harming the skin at all. Once destroyed, the body naturally takes over and flushes out the old fat cells through the lymphatic system.

How Long Does It Take To See Results of truSculpt® iD?

The procedure takes just a few minutes, and patients can expect to see full results 6-12 weeks after their last treatment–that’s the amount of time the body needs time to clear away the destroyed fat.

With truSculpt® iD, patients can get the slimmer shape they desire, even in areas that have been resistant to diet and exercise, like the abs and the hips.

Advantages of truSculpt® iD:

  • Treatment time in as little as 15 minutes
  • No anaesthetic needed
  • Non-invasive and non-surgical
  • No Visible Downtime
  • Safe and effective
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Minor Side Effects are Rare
  • 24% fat reduction

Ten years ago, the only treatment option available to kill fat cells for people with trouble losing weight who struggled with stubborn bulges resistant to diet and exercise was surgical liposuction. Today, clinically proven innovations in fat-reduction technology have supported the rise of non-invasive fat reduction treatments that offer pain, anaesthesia, and surgery-free alternatives.

But with all the different fat reduction treatments, it may be hard to know which one is best for you. In this article, we’ll go over the pros and cons of the most popular non-invasive fat reduction treatments on the market.

How Non-Invasive Fat Reduction Treatments Work

Non-invasive fat reduction treatments utilise  different mechanisms to achieve the same objective: permanently destroying fat cells in upper arms, lower abdomen, double chin, inner and outer thighs, and stubborn areas throughout the body with minimal discomfort and without the use of general anesthesia. Some treatments work by destroying fat cells by exposing them to controlled cooling; some expose fat cells to heat. Other treatments use radiofrequency or ultrasonic injury to permanently eliminate fat cells. All treatments aim for lipolysis (lipo = fat cells + lysis = cell death.)

Top 6 Non-Surgical Fat Reduction Treatments

1. CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a popular, non-invasive fat reduction treatment that works by freezing fat cells to death using a mechanism that delivers precise controlled cooling to stubborn pockets of fat in multiple areas of the body including inner and outer thighs, upper arms, lower abdomen, and double chin. Patients experience a cold sensation and a mild tugging feeling for the first 5 minutes before the area goes numb. Coolsculpting treats localized fat that has resistance to diet though it does not replace a healthy lifestyle.

Treatment Time: 35 minutes to an hour.

Treatments needed: 2 to 4 treatments per area

Down time: No downtime; most patients may return to their normal activities immediately following their treatment.

Side effects: Potential side effects include minimal discomfort, mild swelling, tenderness, numbing, bruising, redness.

When Will I See  Results? Maximum results seen 8-12 weeks after the treatment.

2. SculpSure (Laser Lipolysis)

Similar to CoolSculpting but, instead of using controlled cooling, Sculpsure heats up fat cells to the point of destruction using light based technology. Patients may experience a warm and tingly sensation during the procedure.

Treatment Time:  25 minutes.

Treatments needed: 2-3 treatments per area.

Down time: No downtime; patients may return to their normal daily activities immediately following their treatment.

Side effects: Potential  stiffness and swelling.

When Will I See  Results? Maximum results seen 8-12 weeks after the treatment.

3. Zerona

Another laser-based technology that heats fat cells using a “cold laser,” Zerona is one of the most gentle fat reduction treatments, but also the least effective. Zerona requires patients to adhere to a strict diet following treatment.

Treatment Time: 40 minutes.

Treatments needed: 6 in a 2-week span

Down time: No downtime required; patients may return to their normal daily activities immediately following their treatment.

Side effects: Side effects are rare for most patients.

When will I see Zerona results? Many fat reduction treatment specialists would say you won’t.  If you do respond to the treatment,  Maximum results manifest several weeks after conclusion of the treatment programme.

4. Vanquish

Vanquish heats fat cells to death using radiofrequency. This unique mechanism can target larger areas of the body than other non-invasive fat reduction treatments. Vanquish is similar to other fat reduction treatments like liposuction, Venus Freeze, Trusculpt, or Ultrashape that utilise radiofrequency and/or ultrasonic energy to deliver thermal manipulation to fat cells.

Treatment Time: 30 to 60 minutes.

Treatments needed: 2-3 treatments per area.

Down time: No downtime required

Side effects: Many patients report lumps and tenderness.

When will I see results? Within 8-12 weeks after the treatment.*

5. Emsculpt NEO

Emsculpt NEO is an upgraded version of the original Emsculpt, which focuses on building muscle. Besides building muscle, Emsculpt NEO incorporates radiofrequency energy to reduce fat and tighten the skin. Try this if you struggle to achieve your dream body through consistent exercise and a healthy diet!

EmSculpt Neo was introduced into the body contouring market by 2020 and has become the most advanced body contouring technique in recent times. It provides revolutionary weight-loss benefits as a combination of electromagnetic and electrical energy. Combined with these unique technology mixes, the system produces superior results. The system can reduce the body mass by 30 per cent and increase strength by 25% in just 3 days of operation. This technology is one of the best noninvasive fat removal techniques available today.

Treatment Time: On average, Emsculpt NEO sessions take half an hour to complete.

Treatments Needed: Typically, patients get six Emsculpt sessions over three weeks. Each session  will take place every two to three days.

Downtime: No painful recovery; patients return to work or their daily routine after their sessions.

Side Effects: Mild soreness around the treatment area.

When Will I See  Results? It can take six to eight weeks after a full treatment plan to see visible results.

6. Trusculpt

Trusculpt is a non-invasive body sculpting treatment that utilises  radiofrequency energy to heat fat tissues. Patients experience not only a reduction in fat but also tighter skin after the treatment.

Treatment Time: Trusculpt sessions are quick and easy. You can be in and out within fifteen minutes to an hour depending on your treatment area(s).

Treatments Needed: Trusculpt patients get optimal results from one to two treatments.

Down time:  One of the greatest advantages of Trusculpt is there’s minimal downtime after. Your skin may look redder than usual after your sessions. The redness should subside within an hour.

Side Effects: Trusculpt side effects are minimal compared to other cosmetic treatments. But it’s normal to experience mild redness and tenderness in the treated areas. After-effects usually go away without intervention within a few hours.

When Will I See Results?: Trusculpt outcomes differ per patient. But results may take four to six weeks to show.

Tackle weight gain successfully with non-surgical fat removal treatments

Nonsurgical fat removal techniques have risen in popularity over invasive fat removal systems like surgical liposuction because there are minimal to no side effects or down time. Noninvasive fat reductions an effective method of permanently destroying fat cells without the use of knives, needles, or anesthetics.

Why Choose Non-Invasive Fat Reduction

Liposuction, an invasive procedure, has long been the gold standard for effective fat reduction. However, the nature of such an invasive cosmetic treatment concerns many. Although effective, invasive procedures may include general anaesthesia, scalpels, stitches, scars, lengthy recovery times, and other adverse side effects.

Advancements in non-invasive cosmetic treatments have revolutionised the cosmetic industry. And in 2023, reducing fat has never been safer, easier, or more effective.
